in the claws of grinding dismay, hope endures.
in the talons of savage reality, hope endures.
wedged deep the thorns may be, yet hope endures.
bruised bloody the soul may feel, yet hope endures.
beyond these words, hope endures.
past this paltry rhyme, hope endures.
soaring into the boundless sky, hope endures.
running free in fields of flowers, hope endures.
hope endures, as life batters the day,
hope endures, as today shatters the night,
hope endures, as it must, for the journey ahead
hope endures, as it must, for the avenues yet to be tread …

Hope is the most overused word in my vocabulary! An enjoyable poem, Afzal

Makes me think of the great poem by Emily Dickinson, “Hope” is the thing with feathers” and “Hope” by Lisel Mueller. Check them out! Thanks for sharing a needed reminder, especially as I begin a new year with my students.

Sometimes hope is that small scraggly green shoot bravely coming up through a crack in the concrete. Like the Van Gogh quote very much.

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:1-5, CSB)

Hope without Jesus Christ is only fleeting. For in Jesus Christ, there is lasting and enduring hope. For those who belong to Jesus Christ, He will never leave them nor forsake them. This is a cause and source of hope that is substantive.
