they were fertile for plunder,

the shitholes provided the labour to build the gleaming buildings that soared into the skies unmatched,

on land that was from the first peoples’ stolen, and brutally snatched.

they pick your oranges,

they pick up after your children,

they do the work others will not,

while in the abyss of poverty they are left to rot.

Glows world-wide welcome;

her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips.

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
