the stench of racism …
1.
when rancid racism festers in cocooned fungal minds, narrow and deep,
the insidious venom of prejudice begins to seep,
infecting the consciousness of the ones who choose to blindly sleep.
2.
espoused beliefs held so true, seem stripped of feeling,
appearing feigned, designed, and branded as compassion,
while holier-than-thou conceit leeches humanity out of chests swollen with self-righteous passion.
3.
the racism, the prejudice is deeply entrenched,
enveloping the afflicted like a comforting shawl,
needing little to fester, and even less to mutate,
into doctrines of cultural superiority, jingoistic bigotry, religious intolerance, and racist hate.
4.
am I guilty of succumbing to this virulent plague?
sipping my tea, shovelling more onto my heaving plate,
falling into comfortable oblivious blindness,
without care,
as the stench of prejudice, of racism, of spousal emotional, psychological, physical abuse, of neglect for the old and ill, of homophobia, islamophobia, female-genital mutilation, xenophobia, of fanaticism and extremism of all shapes and forms,
of the cries of the multitudes in despair,
floats, unnoticed,
a deadly pathogen in the evening air …
I’m Eurasian. I am surprised how dark people deal with being dark. There are fewer attractive dark whites, it seems, than blondes in general.

I believe that the concept of ‘beauty’ itself is so very subjective that it is almost impossible to define. of course the cosmetics and clothing and other fashion industries also emphasise a particular body type etc. I believe that ‘beauty’ is found everywhere – across the colour and race spectrum.

People use race to get what they want. They dislike it when someone who is not all white overshadows them. They look for any possible reason out there, and in the end it’s blood, like about being different and not better nor worse. People want to make sure others don’t get what they’d really prefer, right away, if it looks like they themselves may never get it.

Beautiful piece, captures an aged rot. I breathe your passion, and believe one voice is enough, would we keep having this stench? Yes, but we can also do lots to reduce their damage to humanity and save one more child’s mind from being bent against humanity.

firstly, my friend, thank you for your kind and warm words. they are deeply and truly appreciated.
yes, your words ring so true. one person at a time and if we can reach even one person – it is a victory of the forces of compassion and kindness.
and yes, there is so much more that can be and must and should be done to protect the younger generations from the perpetuation of hate and intolerance and fanaticism.
thank you again, dear friend.
warmest wishes and regards to you and to all those dear to you.

I think you know already how much I admire yourmpoetry and relate to what you say. Today, I am more moved than ever. I see how you have included so many terrible things in here, that dehumanises peple. Please keep up the good work. In my own small way I am trying to join you now, in writing of the inhumanity of human beings to human beings. Peace to you

your warm words touch me deeply, my friend. you are the kind of human beings this cruel needs so many more of. someone like you who can relate to the plight of so many of our fellow humans on this tiny yet large speck in the universe. your warmth and kindness and generosity is what inspires me and may it continue to inspire many others too. we are not asking for something difficult or expensive, far from it – we are only asking that we human beings begin to shed our prejudices towards one another so that we and generations to come may have a world less cruel and more filled with harmony – between human beings and with the many other living creatures we share this world with.
thank you for your heartfelt words. they move me deeply.
my warmest and respected wishes to you and to all those dear to you.

I did not realisenuntil I readnyour pietry that there was still so mych of this going on in South Afruca. I feel we should, together, sing “We shall overcome.” For ONE DAY, we WILL. Love and peace .

such powerful words, dear friend!
and yes yes yes, we must sing We Shall Overcome … because we truly shall overcome one day … inequality and racism and bigotry cannot go on forever. the forces of kindness and warmth of spirit are much more powerful.
We SHALL overcome!

Peace my dear friend.
Joan Baez! Wow … what a powerful singer and songwriter against injustice.
Will share more with you, most definitely and likewise I would be honoured if you would also share with me.
Pete Seeger and Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) and Woody Guthrie are three legends as well
